Say yes to life, they say

It's easy to say yes to life

When it's a promotion

Or a new job

Or a new love

Or a night out

But what about when it's not?

What if it's losing something

Rather than gaining

What if it's losing money

Or an opportunity

Or a friend?

What if it's getting something you didn't want

Harsh criticism

An unwanted touch

A deceitful lie

A cruel joke

How do you say yes then?

Id rather say no!

But maybe saying yes to life

Means accepting the situation

Protecting yourself, yes

But being open to the lessons

That the hard knocks teach you

Because they come bearing gifts

Teaching you patience, courage and empathy

Like no self help book ever could
